• The modernization and development of the “Centru/Transilvaniei” Wastewater Treatment Plant has reached approximately 85% completion, with works scheduled to be finalized by the end of this year. Treatment capacity will increase fourfold, reaching 8,000 m³/day.

Veolia România Soluții Integrate (VRSI), the operator of the public water supply and wastewater services in the city of Otopeni, continues to implement the investment program aimed at modernising the local water, wastewater and treatment infrastructure, launched in 2024. The program, worth €13.7 million and with an implementation period of eight years, primarily aims to expand and modernize the “Centru/Transilvaniei” Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as to upgrade the city’s water supply and sewerage networks.
The investments contribute to increase the safety and continuity of water and wastewater services for the city’s residents, in the context of the accelerated development of the Bucharest–Ilfov metropolitan area, one of Romania’s most dynamic urban regions, marked by residential, logistics and economic projects development, as well as by growing pressure on utilities infrastructure.
“Otopeni is undergoing continuous development, which requires public infrastructure adapted to the current needs of one of the most dynamic communities in the Bucharest metropolitan area. Through the projects we are carrying out, we are focusing on optimal solutions for the growing number of residents served, designed to provide stability and predictability for the water and wastewater system. This is a complex program, with visible works on the ground and technical solutions that will matter in the long term for the quality of the services provided to more than 21,000 residents,” said Irina Munteanu, General Manager of Veolia România Soluții Integrate
The developmenn of these investment projects also reflects the strong partnership between VRSI and the Otopeni City Hall, whose active involvement and strong institutional cooperation are essential factors in supporting and advancing the modernization of local public infrastructure.
Main works currently under implementation
VRSI is currently advancing in line with its committed investment program, through actions targeting both the wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure and the drinking water supply network.
The works to modernize and develop the “Centru/Transilvaniei” Wastewater Treatment Plant have reached approximately 85% completion and, once finalized, will allow treatment capacity to increase fourfold, to more than 8,000 m³/day, with the possibility of go up to 10,000 m³/day, depending on the city’s future development. The investment is worth €6.7 million, and the works are estimated to be completed by the end of this year. To date, VRSI has completed a significant part of the structural, electrical and equipment installation works, with the project set to increase the plant’s efficiency and wastewater intake capacity.
At the same time, VRSI continues the retrofitting projects for the Matei Basarab and Marin Preda stations, which will be converted into wastewater pumping stations. For the Matei Basarab station, the building permit has been obtained, and works will begin in the coming period, while the Marin Preda station project is currently in the process of obtaining the urban planning certificate, with an estimated completion date of June 2027.
For water supply operations, the company continues the works to replace and resize the water supply pipeline on 1 Mai Street, which have reached 75% completion, with finalization estimated for July 2026.
In addition to these projects, VRSI has continued the modernization of the Oituz Water Facility, which contributes to improve flow and pressure parameters in the area, as well as the optimization of the Polonă/DN1 crossing, which has led to improved pressure on Ion Creangă, Odăii and George Enescu streets.
The projects currently under implementation are part of VRSI’s strategy to modernize water and wastewater infrastructure in the Bucharest metropolitan area and reflect the company’s commitment to developing safe, efficient and sustainable services for local communities.
