Veolia Purpose

The company’s purpose

Usefulness – at the heart of our strategic vision

The Veolia Group firmly believes in the role and usefulness of its sector in building a sustainable future in line with society's expectations. It is one of the first French companies to have defined its purpose, under the impetus of its Chairman and CEO, who says:

A business is prosperous because it is useful and not the other way around.

Veolia's purpose was established through a long process of work and unprecedented collaboration involving the company's management bodies, employees, the Critical Friends Committee (external experts), customers, people's panels, and so on.

Drawn up through consultation with Veolia’s external experts, the Critical Friends Committee, debated by the company’s Executive Committee, and approved by the Board of Directors, our performance chart reflects the ambition of our mission and shall be used to guide us through its execution.

When defining Veolia’s purpose, we focused on goals such as the company’s usefulness in society and the wellbeing of the communities where it operates.

Veolia’s aim is to contribute to human progress by firmly committing to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN to achieve a better and more sustainable future for us all. It is with this aim in mind that Veolia has set itself the task of “Resourcing the World” through its environmental services business.

Continuing human development is only possible if economic, social and environmental issues are addressed as an indivisible whole. This belief is embedded in the history of the company, which, from its very creation in 1853, led the way by making access to drinking water an essential element of public health and quality of life.

Veolia is a company that is both local and global, with a high level of technical know-how and labour, and which, through its defined mission, makes long-term commitments.
